KingChroma iron oxide powder is a kind of pigment with good dispersibility, excellent light resistance and weather resistance. KingChroma iron oxide pigment mainly refers to four kinds of coloring pigments, namely iron red, iron yellow, iron black and iron brown, which take iron oxide oxide oxide as the basic material, among which iron oxide red is the main one (accounting for about 50% of the iron oxide pigment), iron oxide mica can be used as rust-proof pigment, and magnetic iron oxide can be used as magnetic recording material.

KingChroma’s iron oxide pigments are mainly iron oxide red (accounting for about 50% of the pigments), mica iron oxide, which can be used as antirust pigments, and magnetic iron oxide, which can be used as magnetic record materials. In addition, KingChroma iron oxide powder has the advantages of good brightness and high vividness.

Iron Oxide Powder Detail

KingChroma iron oxide powder is widely used in high-grade automotive coatings, architectural coatings, anticorrosive coatings, and powder coatings, which is a better environmentally friendly coatings, and can be used as glass coloring agent, iron oxide pigment can also be used as a coloring agent and protective agent for wood coating. The use of iron oxide as pigment not only maintains the advantages of good heat resistance, weather resistance and ultraviolet absorption of general inorganic pigment, but also can be well dispersed in the oil carrier, and the coatings or inks modulated with it have satisfactory transparency. The use of semiconducting properties of iron oxide and other coatings, due to the high conductive properties, can play a role in electrostatic shielding.

Iron Oxide Powder FAQs

Skin irritation: Some people may be allergic to pigments containing iron oxide, which can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions like itching, redness, and rashes. The severity of these reactions may differ from person to person.

Toxicity: Iron oxide pigment for makeup is commonly used in small amounts and does not pose any major health risks to humans. Nevertheless, extended exposure to high levels of these pigments can be harmful. Hence, it is crucial for cosmetics containing iron oxide pigments to comply with safety regulations and standards for safe use.

Iron oxide pigment is a pigment that disperses well, resists light and weathering, and will not fade from long-term exposure.

Iron oxide powder is cheap, safe, and doesn’t bleed. It’s perfect for blending with water-based paints and can produce multiple shades. It’s often used in coatings, paints, and inks. However, it can’t be mixed with acrylic pigments.

Iron oxide powder is an inorganic red oxide pigment with numerous industrial and environmental applications. Its main constituent is iron oxide, which imparts chemical stability, durability, and color retention, even in diverse environmental conditions. Iron oxide powder is a common additive in the construction industry for manufacturing building materials like red bricks, tiles, and ceramic tiles. It enhances the appearance, color, weather resistance, and durability of these materials.

Iron oxide red pigment works well for water-based wall coatings inside and outside buildings. According to their use, water-based coatings are sorted into three categories: construction coatings, industrial coatings, and anti-rust coatings. All of them rely on using pigments, and iron oxide pigments are especially necessary for water-based coatings.

Iron oxide is a popular pigment used in high-end automotive coatings, architectural coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, and powder coatings. It is an eco-friendly coating. The yearly use of iron oxide pigments globally goes beyond one million tons, coming in second place after titanium pigment and in the rank of inorganic pigments.

Iron oxide pigment is eco-friendly. It positively impacts sustainable environmental development. Unlike traditional organic pigments, it lacks harmful substances and poses no threats to the environment or human health.

Iron oxide pigments absorb UV rays which helps prevent UV erosion. This allows buildings to maintain their vibrant colors without fading for a long time.

Glass colored with iron oxide can absorb both ultraviolet and infrared rays, which makes it really useful for making things like sunglasses, heat-absorbing glass, protective glasses for workers, and military coatings that resist infrared.

Iron oxide powder has extremely wide applications in ceramic products. Iron oxide is a popular choice for coloring ceramics because it has excellent coloring performance. To prepare colored glaze water, people use its coloring properties. Iron oxides contain iron ions with different valence points, which makes them polychromatic. When added to other glazes, iron oxides can make the color tone of the glaze richer and brighter. In the manufacturing experience of ceramics (glazes), different firing atmospheres were used which resulted in different colors of iron oxide. Under the oxidizing flame atmosphere, the color of iron oxide changed from yellow to reddish-brown, and then from grape red to brown. Under the reducing atmosphere, iron oxide exhibits a blue to gray dark color change. This is due to the dynamic equilibrium transformation between Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the glaze layer.

Iron oxide powder can be easily dispersed in oily carriers, resulting in coatings or inks with satisfactory transparency. They are suitable for different primers and topcoats of oily paints, such as epoxy, alkyd, amino, and others. In addition, they can be used in toy paint, decorative paint, and furniture paint.

Iron oxide powders are known for their strong sun and weather resistance. They are high-temperature resistant bright powder pigments that can withstand heat of up to 300 ℃, light resistance of up to 8 levels, and migration resistance of 5 levels. They have good dispersibility and are known for their excellent light and weather resistance.

Iron oxide powder pigments can be mixed with concrete, which enhances the appearance and durability of buildings. Mixing iron oxide powder pigments with concrete can give the building facade richer and more beautiful colors. Moreover, iron oxide powder pigments have the ability to promote the rust and corrosion resistance of concrete, increasing its service life.

Although useful in many applications, the iron oxide series of pigments can be harmful to the human body in some special circumstances. For example, inhaling iron oxide red dust for extended periods can cause pneumoconiosis problems, also known as “siderosis”. Moreover, personnel who work in high-concentration iron oxide red dust environments for a long time should be aware of the resistance of iron oxide to the current. This resistance can cause the current to be blocked, and then it may become a short circuit, which can pose a direct threat to human life. Furthermore, due to its ability to absorb water and conduct electricity, iron oxide can become a dangerous factor when using electrical appliances, so caution should be exercised in this regard.

Iron oxide pigment powder can react with acidic or alkaline substances in the air, making it important to avoid storing it with such materials. To prevent chemical reactions that can alter the pigment’s properties, it is recommended to store it in a dry, sealed environment.

For optimal storage, it is advisable to use kraft paper or polyethylene plastic bags that are chemically inert when packaging the iron oxide pigment powder. However, it’s crucial to note that iron oxide red has a shelf life of three years. Thus, extended storage periods are not advisable.

Classification of iron oxide pigments: Iron oxide pigments can be classified into four categories based on their properties and functions: coloring pigments, metal pigments, functional pigments, and physical pigments. Coloring pigments are divided into two categories: organic and inorganic pigments, which can cover almost all color systems. Metal pigments mainly include floating and non-floating aluminum powder, various shades of copper-gold powder and pearlescent pigment, metal nickel powder, and stainless steel powder. Functional pigments comprise fluorescent pigments, luminous pigments, high-temperature resistant pigments, conductive pigments, and others. Physical pigments encompass titanium pigment, calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, talc powder, bentonite, quartz powder, and others.
